The Darley Hall Ice House Community Dig
Heritage Lottery Funding (HLF) have approved our project and have awarded DAHG £9,500 to carry out an exploratory archaeological excavation of the old Ice-House of Darley Hall, in conjunction with Trent & Peak Archaeology (T&PA).
Thanks to HLF for the Award and to Lottery users for their contributions. We’re now –
Thanks to all Groups – DACA; FODOS; DVM/WHS; the Scouts – who gave us local support in our bid. A particular thanks to Derby City Council and the City Archaeologist for their approval to dig on their land along with their support and help on the project to date. This, we trust, will continue into the future as the project progresses. Finally, we also thank T&PA for their professional guidance.
Next, Derby City Council Parks Team(s) will clear the site in the shrubbery by the Village Hall and we’ll be working with T&PA to carry out geophysical testing of the site, to accurately locate the buried features.
The work will begin in early September and we are contacting adult volunteers and school-children, who have expressed an interest in helping, to take part in this exciting project. Other volunteers who are interested can contact us through the “Contacts” page of this Blog or apply directly by email. To access your email programme Click Here
Watch out for notifications, emails etc. detailing the dates and read the Ice House Dig section of the Blog which will always be up to date.
